We are preparing for upcoming summer shows lately. Got a couple new songs in the works. And we had a photo shoot for 2 hours yesterday.

Of course Jamie (who works in layout and design all day) had to do some of his signature tweaking as soon as he was handed 1 of the files:) here’s a little preview of what you’ll be seeing on stage…

Recorded impromptu jam on the iPhone. Jamie bought a bass to add to the mix. He never played one before. This is a little insight into how he writes a song.. Just hit record on the iPhone and GO! He and John were hitting drums and strings VERY hard but the middle of this song.

I have a new music venture that came to life last week. It’s a “band” ( can 1 person be a band?) called GOALIE. This is a short sound clip of what you can expect from this project.

GOALIE is something that I’ve been wanting to do for a very very long time. Truthfully, it’s what was originally in my mind for 13-MONSTERS. But..as 13M’s got bigger, it also got a bit more user-friendly and ..well..marketable. I found myself writing music that would fit on internet streaming radio. I don’t think GOALIE will take the same path as I intend to leave it as a very rough and tumble rock/noise/art/story project. There wont be anything that I do as GOALIE that I’d expect any of the stations that 13-MONSTERS is on to be picking up. It’s a visceral, moody, and rather emotionally violent venture which centers around a character who is only comfortable behind a mask having things hurled at him..physically, mentally and emotionally. It’s music that I’ve always wanted to do but never did because I never knew anyone who would like it. Now, I’m doing it for the love of doing it…whether anyone hears it or not. If you do like it for the style that it is, I’d love to hear from you.

The manner in which the music is done is all extremely rough. Made with a mixture of live guitar, live bass, live drums, tracked drums, dub-like back beats, my voice, various objects to hit and produce sounds, and my trusty Macbook running the entire show. There are no rules. There is no set map. It may be distortion one day and a song with dog barks looped in on another. Some songs may be a few seconds..some may be 10 minutes. I’m hoping that this takes whatever path that the inside of the characters mind may go..no matter how apparently troubled or happy that is.

The musical inspirations for this long awaited project are some of my favorite mentors. Helmet. Boris. Melvins. Hella. Lightning Bolt. Black Pus. Electric Wizard. Crystal Method. Chemical Brothers.

Happenings and updates for the week...

We are re-releasing a couple of remixed songs today. A newer, better version of YELLOWKINFE is on the way!! Plus a redub of INTRODUCTION is just ahead!! Bri knocks it out of the park on these songs!

We found a new mixing place to do all of our mastering! We’ve been searching for weeks and haven’t found that special place that feels like home….until Jamie walked into the Beacon Tap in Forest Park Illinois. The old wood floors, the bookshelves full of old books, friendly regulars who took him in, and half of a mannequin hanging from the ceiling made this place “the one”. So if you’re in the area and we announce that we’ll be in our place of mixing nirvana, it’s here.

In other news: on 2/28/13 an offshoot of 13-MONSTERS was hatched. It’s Jamie’s solo 1 man power station of experimental noise art rock called GOALIE . We’ll put up a link to sounds when they are available. It’s going to be insane…
